Israel's Attack on Freedom of Speech

Average People Being Charged as "Terrorists" for Sharing Social Media Posts

Noting Israel's assault on freedom of speech, the Washington Post highlighted the story of a female college student who has been jailed & charged with "identifying with a terrorist organization" and "incitement to terrorism".

Her specific crime was sharing 3 Instagram posts that she saw online. The first was a photo of Palestinians using a bulldozer on the illegal barbed-wire barrier that Israel set up on Gaza territory. The second showed a montage of Palestinian children with the words "Where were the people calling for humanity when we were being killed?" The third photo showed Palestinians on a captured Israeli vehicle. The caption simply read, "Gaza today."

The student, a Palestinian Israeli citizen named Rita Murad, faces 5 years in prison, a loss of citizenship and deportation. Through her lawyers, she has reported that she has already been beaten while awaiting trial. This abuse of power to silence dissent was a hallmark of pre-WWII Nazi Germany.

Over 100 other people have been arrested over similar bogus "terrorist" offenses. Israel is NOT a real democracy. It is unworthy of admiration or support by freedom-loving Americans.
